NYC singer/producer Topher Kavook is back at it again, having released his newest single “I’M DREAMING” on January 4th. It’s a simple trap song about remembering someone who no longer loves you. The beat was made by California producer PilotKid ($NOT; Blvck Svm; Unusual Demont) and features glaringly obvious influence from 808s-era Kanye and early Travis Scott. Kavook plans on targeting young people who have been through the same kind of heartbreak that inspired this song. A full-length video has been filmed, which he plans on dropping after a week of promoting the song with short-form content.
Topher Kavook’s authenticity and meticulous attention to detail separate him from other artists. Every song he makes comes from a place of truth. One lyric that sticks out in particular is “someday imma make it out to Malibu/buy a crib and show you that you miss me too.” Topher tells us how he copes with feelings of inadequacy by setting lofty goals for himself.
The process of creating this song started with 3 melodies that immediately came to his mind upon hearing the beat. The lyrics took only a day to write, and a demo version was recorded in October before returning back to the song in December to re-record to the best of his ability.
