It seems that melodic rapper and singer Tay G has broken through from the underground scene and is taking it mainstream with his newest single, “Gone.” Just five days after being released, “Gone” has gathered over 150,000 Spotify streams as well as more than 50,000 views on YouTube. These numbers seem to prove that Tay G’s recent shift in style of music is paying off. This was Tay G’s first release after changing over from autotune rap similar to the style of Lil Mosey and Lil Tecca, into a more vocally present artist such as Chini, Thekidszn, or Kid Laroi. It certainly seems that this was the right move for the artist, helping him reach record streaming levels shortly after the release.

Tay G could simply just ride this wave of success and see where it takes him, but he knows that an artist can never stop working. He plans to release another single soon, utilizing a similar style and release strategy in order to prove that he can replicate the progress quickly made with “Gone.” If successful, Tay G hopes to revive the usage of sad and heavy vocal samples in music, similar to the samples often used by XXXTentacion in his more popular songs. It may only be a few weeks before we know what the future holds for this aspiring young talent.
